To grow bananas from seeds, there are six steps you can follow:
1. Soak the seeds in warm water for 48 hours to help them sprout.
2. Prepare a seed tray indoors with potting soil that contains organic compost and sandy/airy loam.
3. Sow the seeds about 1/4 inch deep in the tray. If the soil temperature remains above 68 degrees Fahrenheit, you can also sow them outdoors in a bed.
4. Water the tray to keep the soil moist, but not soggy. Avoid overwatering, as it can cause the seeds to rot.
5. Maintain an indoor soil temperature of at least 60 degrees Fahrenheit using a heat mat on a timer. Different banana varieties may require specific temperature ratios, so research your seed to ensure the correct conditions.
6. Be patient, as banana seed germination can take anywhere from two to three weeks to several months or longer, depending on the variety.
It's worth noting that bananas more commonly grow from bulbs or rhizomes in tropical regions. While there is mixed evidence on growing bananas from seeds, some sources suggest it is possible.
